Apolo Anton Ohno Dismisses Romantic Rumors With Partner
It has become a common trend for stars to fall in love with each other after sharing a bond on a television or film experience together. is no exception, as a few of its contestants have ended up together after their participation in the reality competition. Season 3's contestant Mario Lopez and dance partner Karina Smirnoff seemed to develop a lasting relationship as the two currently live together. Two-time champion Cheryl Burke and Joey Lawrence's younger brother Matthew are also together. Rumors circulated recently about romantic sparks flying between Apolo Ohno and dance partner Julianne Hough.
Ohno, who emerged victorious in Dancing with the Stars' season 4, said in a conversation with the New York Post that 'There's no truth to [the rumors of a romantic relationship]. Our relationship was strictly professional. It was sometimes goofy, but strictly professional.'
The rumors about their romantic entanglements circulated when Hough canceled her wedding to former dancer Zach Wilson, which was scheduled on August 8, 2007, prior to the finale of season 4 of Dancing with the Stars. The Wilson-Hough wedding was to be a Mormon ceremony in Utah,
but due to Hough's hectic workload on the dance contest, she decided to postpone it.
Ohno cleared out the issue, saying 'We had great chemistry on the dance floor, which is why people think [we're romantically involved]. It meant I was doing my job [as a dancer].'
Wilson also had something to say, as he admitted that he was indeed aware of these rumors. However, he did not believe them.
'I've heard a lot about that. Because I'm a dancer I know what performing takes. I've been involved in ballroom a lot, so I know there has to be chemistry when you dance together. It doesn't mean that there's any romance going on. And I know personally that there's not, because I've been with them in rehearsals and I've gotten to know Apolo really well. He's a really nice guy. So it doesn't bother me,' Wilson stated in a conversation with TVGuide.
